Dave Mantle
Dave, based in Chiswick, West London, has been immersed in triathlon and endurance sport for the last thirty years, competing in a range of events from grassroots 5k’s to world championship Ironman events and Ultras including the iconic Marathon des sables desert race.
His Journey into sport started at a very young age, but it wasn’t through clubs and formal events, but racing his BMX around building sites. jumping off things he shouldn’t have been jumping off, trying to deliver newspapers as fast as he could on his racer, or trying to beat his PE teacher on the weekly cross country run, and failing miserably.
Way back in 1988 there was no internet, no mobile phones, and no clever GPS watches. Jogging was becoming a cool thing, and with a pair of HiTec silver shadow trainers, Dave began to enter the world of endurance sport. In 1998 he ran his first marathon in London, which proved to be a challenging day off the back of one 16mile ‘training’ run, but nevertheless that emotional finish line feeling sowed the seed for many forthcoming years of fun racing. After dabbling in a few local triathlons, Dave entered his first UK Ironman in 2006. He built his TT bike from eBay bits, bought a used wetsuit that had the arms chopped off and hobbled his way around to the finish line in a time of 11:38. The Triathlon bug truly took a grip and his journey of becoming a coached athlete began.
